On January 2, the Federal Government of Somalia worked with the United States to degrade Al-Shabaab through an airstrike that targeted al-Shabaab in Bay region, 150 miles southwest of Mogadishu, killing 10 Al Shabaab fighters.
The targeting of Al Shabaab fighters disrupts their efforts to extort and terrorize the local population. The Federal Government of and its allies will continue to use all possible measures to protect local residents from terrorists. We assess that no civilians were killed or injured in the strike.
