Director General, Somali National Television (SNTV)
Mohamedkafi Abukar is the Director General of Somali National Television (SNTV) and the former Director of Radio Muqdisho – The Voice of the Republic of Somalia. With more than 15 years of experience in Somalia’s evolving media sector, he is widely recognized as a leading figure in national broadcasting and a passionate advocate for independent, responsible, and public-interest journalism.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mohamedkafi has played a central role in transforming Somalia’s public media institutions. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing the professionalization, modernization, and digital transition of Somali media, ensuring that journalism serves as a bridge between citizens and the state.
Under his direction, SNTV has strengthened its editorial standards, expanded nationwide coverage, and enhanced its role as a trusted source of information, education, and inspiration for the Somali public.
In recognition of his exceptional service, Mohamedkafi received the Somalia Media Award in 2013, a prestigious honor supported by the United Nations, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to the media industry and his efforts to promote ethical and development-oriented journalism.
