On January 8, the Federal Government of Somalia worked with the United States to degrade Al-Shabaab through an airstrike that targeted al-Shabaab fighters near Yaaq Bariweyne, Bay Region, killing six Al Shabaab terrorists. The targeting of Al Shabaab fighters disrupts their efforts to extort and terrorize the local population. We continue to use all possible measures to protect local residents from terrorists. No civilians were killed or injured in the strike.
