Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended the 26th Extraordinary General Meeting of the East African Community (EAC), which discussed the renewed war crisis in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks in Cairo with the Speaker of the Arab League Parliament, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Al-Yamahi.

3- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has participated in the African Energy Summit in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, with the aim of accelerating access to energy in African communities, and addressed in-depth efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia to strengthen access to energy.

4- President Hassan Sheikh held sideline meetings with some of the leaders who attended the African Summit on energy in Dar es Salaam.

5- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud receives credentials from the Ambassadors of Sudan, Thailand, Palestine, Tanzania, Portugal, Rwanda, Algeria and Japan.

6- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has condoled the death of traditional peacemaker Farah Abdi Waare, who was one of the traditional elders in the country.

7- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre has condoled the death of traditional peacemaker Farah Abdi Waare, who passed away in Mogadishu.

8- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre held a meeting with the members of the National Media Council and urged them to efficiently carry out the important tasks entrusted to them.

9- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, who participated in the graduation ceremony of U-Peace University students, said that the government will focus on improving education at different levels, while the plan to build a higher education committee in the country is underway.

10- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre has appointed Mrs. Amina Ahmed Samatar as the Coordinator of Women’s Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office.

11- The Cabinet has passed a Resolution on dealing with and managing the misuse of social media.

12- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama has unveiled the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Security for the next five years.

13- The 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Abdisalan Abdi Ali (Dhaay), chaired the meeting of the government’s social affairs development pillar where the acceleration of the government’s efforts to deliver various services to the community was discussed.

14- The 2nd Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Abdisalan Abdi Ali (Dhay), who opened the Qatar Airways headquarters in Somalia, said that the modern flights that connect the country to the rest of the world are playing a major role in the movement of people, development of the country and international investment.

15- Deputy Prime Minister Saleh Ahmed Jama attended a media session in which private media and others were allowed to ask him questions regarding the progress Somalia is making and the existing challenges.

16- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr. Daud Aweis Jama has met the Acting Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Ambassador James Swan.

17- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Ambassador Ahmed Maallim Fiqi, signed three agreements in the city of Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, while the on the Tanzanian those signed on behalf of their government were the Minister of Information, Heritage, Culture and Sports of Tanzania, Hon. Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Innocent Lugha Bashungwa.

18- The Somali Police forces killed two armed Kharijities who wanted to kill government forces on duty in Mogadishu’s Daynile District.

19- Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) chaired the regular technical working committee meeting on stabilization program.

20- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Ahmed Maallim Fiqi has closed a task force meeting attended by government officials and the United Nations officials operating in Somalia.

21- The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Bashir Mohamed Jama, held talks with IGAD Director of Climate Change Jamal Mohamed , while discussing issues related to climate change and environmental protection.

22- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweys Jama had a fruitful meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Mogadishu Amb. Ahmed Bin Muhammad Al Muwallad.

23- The Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr. Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adalah participated in an event in Diridhabe in the Somali Region to celebrate the recognition granted by UNESCO to the traditional laws of Ciise Community.

24- The Chairman of the Independent Commission for National Elections and Borders, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, met with the EU Ambassador to Somalia, Karen Johansson.

25- The Ministry of Interior of the Federal Government of Somalia has warned local and international organizations operating in Somalia against working with or dealing with Kharijites terrorist groups.

26- The Immigration and Nationality Agency of Somalia and the International Police (Interpol) have signed a cooperation agreement on preventing organized crime, enhancing immigration security and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

27- The President of the Supreme Court of Baashe Yusuf Ahmed has participated in the 8th meeting of the Presidents of the Constitutional Courts of African countries held in Cairo, Egypt.

28- The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi met with Faisal Shahkar, the Chief of Police of the United Nations.

29- Somali National Forces in collaboration with the local residents have eliminated 16 members of the Kharijites group following heavy fighting aimed at to removing the terrorists from the region.

30- The Governor of Banadir Region and the Mayor of Mogadishu, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Amir chaired a meeting to discuss the security of the capital.

31- . Members of the National Electoral and Boundaries Committee are visiting some of the poling centers designated for the upcoming elections in order to begin registration process.

32- The Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) said the new National Security Strategy has solutions aimed to resolve the challenges facing the security agencies.

33- The National Elections and Borders Committee said that the local authorities elections will take place in Jubbaland, SSC-Khatumo, Galmudug, Hirshabeelle, South West and Banadir regions.

34- The President of Hirshabelle State , Mr. Ali Gudlawe Hussein, received members of the National Electoral Committee who visited Jowhar.

35- The Somali National Army and the locals are continuing the large-scale operation in the eastern region of Hiran, against the Kharijites Al Shabab.

36- The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, held a meeting in Mogadishu with the Italian commander of special forces (Carabinieri) Colonel Fabio Coppolino.

37- The Federal Government of Somalia has made full tax exemptions for services and normal goods in the country.

38- The National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have called on all relevant parties to urgently prepare for the consequences of the expected shortage of rain in Spring of 2025.

39- The Puntland forces have taken control of Daesh Kharijites in the areas of Wadi Soor, Ina Iddol, Damal Cagabuyo, Dibow, Qaqsiye, Daad, Dal Laad and Isha-Siido in the Bari region.
