The Somali government has announced significant progress in its efforts to tap into the nation’s oil reserves, following a strategic agreement with Turkey. Dr. Abdirsaaq Omar Mohamed, the Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, revealed that a Turkish vessel is scheduled to arrive in September to conduct the final survey of potential drilling sites.
Dr. Mohamed emphasized that the official commencement of oil drilling is slated for early 2025, marking a pivotal step towards harnessing Somalia’s natural resources. Additionally, he highlighted Somalia’s impending membership in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is expected to yield substantial benefits for the country.
This development demonstrates Somalia’s commitment to advancing its energy sector and leveraging international partnerships for economic growth.
