The minister advised the new trainees to spread the message of transparent financial and procurement management in their departments so that the national resources are spent without compromise and in the most efficient and effective manner. He said a faulty procurement system leads to distorted development process, weak infrastructure, higher development costs and eventually takes a heavy toll of economic development in the country.
Noting that there is an urgent need for capacity building in the fields of technology, the minister highlighted the Ministry will take a leading role in raising their ICT literacy of finance and procurement staff of all government institutions in order to equip them to face the challenges of modern day financial and procurement management.
The problem lies with the implementation, he said, adding, “We have to ensure that the rules and lessons learned are implemented in practice and spirit.”
